The visit to Doñana on board the "Real Fernando" stop from May 14th to May 24th, due the pilgrimage of "El Rocío". The visit to Doñana by boat + jeep vehicles, will start again on the 25th of May.

The river boat "Real Fernando" and the Andalusian Cooperative Company "Marismas del Rocío", are both licensed companies for guided tours within Doñana National Park. These two companies have now joined in a new itinerary allowing visitors to get to know all the ecosystems of Doñana. This is the only visit that is carried out by boat and four wheel drive vehicles.

This itinerary stars in the beach of Bajo de Guía, Sanlúcar de Barrameda (Cádiz). We will cross the Guadalquivir river with a ferry and, in the beach of Doñana, the jeeps will be waiting for us and show us all the different ecosystems of the Park: the beach, the dunes, pinewoods and the marshlands.

Then we will visit "Poblado de la Plancha", an ancient village of huts, and take a boat along the coast of Doñana to go back to Sanlúcar de Barrameda.

Guided tours. Short stops in the most interesting points.

The whole trip takes 2,5 hours approximately.

Itinerary

Departure from Bajo de Guía, Sanlúcar de Barrameda (Cádiz). The boat sails approximately 13 km. up the Guadalquivir river. The guides on board will explain the different landscapes and wildlife beheld along the voyage.

Landing in "El Poblado de la Plancha" in the National Park of Doñana. There will be a guided tour of about one hour walking and visiting the remaining hunts in "La Plancha". The guide will expose along the visit both the traditional activities and the existent vegetation in the National Park.

Boarding and going on up the river to the next stop. Landing in "Las Salinas", a marshy landscape in the Natural Park of Doñana. This is a guided tour on foot, where the visitor, depending on the season, will enjoy watching the different species of aquatic birds, the visit will last approx. 20 minutes.

Return to Bajo de Guía. During the way back a fim about National Park will be shown on board.

The National Park of Doñana is integrated in the National Parks Net located in Spain. Doñana has total surface of 50,720Has., which stand as the most important wetland in Europe, being regarded a reserve of the biosphere by the UNESCO.

The importance of the National Park is due to its ecological and fauna wealth. It takes in more than 250 species and it’s the las refuges of some importand specimens in danger of extinction, like the linx, the imperial eagle and the horned coot. Regarding the landscape, Doñana shows three habitats: the beach, the shifting dunes and the marshes. Each of these habitats show very defined biological and ecological characteristics.

The National Park of Doñana offers a quiet border to the Guadalquivir river, which runs into Sanlúcar de Barrameda. This city gives the visitor a privileged acces to the inside of Doñana whit the boat cruise "Real Fernando", which every day sails up the river towards the National and Natural Park of Doñana.

The visitor who goes to the Park from Bajo de Guía, in Sanlúcar, has the opportunity to enjoy a trip in which he/she will learn about the history and geomorphology of the Guadalquivir river (or big river in Arabic), the most important river in Andalucía. In the course of the trip two stops will be made: the first on the village of "La Plancha" in the National Park of Doñana; the second one in "Las Salinas" (salt marshes), in the Natural Park of Doñana.

The visitors centre "Ice Factory", managed by the Ministry of Environment has two show areas. One of them provides information about the National Park of Doñana whereas, the other one shows the evolution of manhood in this area. The center gives an insight of the important the town of Sanlúcar played in the discovery of the New World.

This visitor’s centre also offers a shop where customers an acquire the most recent publications about Doñana and souvenirs of the National Park.

River Boat

The "Real Fernando" takes her name from the first steam boat built in Spain. This boat cruise carried out a regular service between Sevilla, Sanlúcar and Cádiz since the 17th July, 1917. Currently tour shows the beauty of the landscape and the wide variety of wild life. The visitor has the chance to see different kinds of binds such as grey herons, sea gulls or mammals like the wild boar that sometimes can be seen on the bank of the Guadalquivir river looking for food.

The "Real Fernando", a boat with the most advanced technology, offers the visitor an audiovisual lounge, a coffee shop on the upper deck, an exhibition room and hiring of binoculars.

Throughout the trip visitors will be attended by skilled guides in Spanish and in English.
